World Diabetes Day Programs
Diabetes is on the increase in our country. As heredity, lifestyle changes contribute to its increased prevalence, we are focusing on the awareness among school children, teachers and thereby hoping to promote one to one education. The following programmes we conducted in commemoration with the Diabetes week celebration.

The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism conducted painting, poster and essay competitions for the school children of Vellore to sensitize them towards diabetes, which affects 70,000 children, each year. 4,40,000 children worldwide, under the age of 14 live with diabetes, requiring insulin injections throughout their lives.

In the general health quiz for school teachers, St. Mary's School was the winner and Krishnaswamy School runners-up.
In continuation of the Diabetes Week celebration, a walkathon was held on Children's Day, November 14, from Ida Scudder School to Don Bosco School. A large gathering, comprising of school and college students, CMC staff and the general public enthusiastically participated in the walk, carrying posters, placards and slogans highlighting the need for daily walk or regular exercise and healthy diet to keep diabetes at bay. An inter-collegiate music competition on the theme obesity was also held. Ten teams presented self-composed songs and dances. The valedictory function was held in Hotel Darling Residency at which the District Collector, Mr. Dharmendra Pratap Yadav was the chief guest and the Director, Dr. Suranjan Bhattacharji, presided.
