Diabetes Educators Training Programme

Diabetes Educators Training Programme

The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism will be organizing a Diabetes Educator Training Program from 12th to 16th July, 2022 (4 days Online Theory Sessions + 6days Practical Sessions at CMC Vellore) with practical and theoretical intonation followed by assessment.

We has been conducting the Diabetes Educator training program as a part of regular academics for the last 16 years.  The program has been generally a single stretch of sessions that extends continuously for an10 day duration.

However, owing to the pandemic and the rules laid by the Government of India, future programmes have been designed to curtail large gatherings as well as enhance the process of social distancing.  As advised by several academic bodies as well as the administration of our institution, we are now moving towards an exciting new model of training on a long term basis, which we trust will actually give value addition to the training of candidates at no additional cost.

With regard to this the following steps will be followed:

LIVE Transmission of lectures and demonstrations :

Online live lectures, discussions and videos, on Microsoft team/zoom platform. The training program for Educators will commence with LIVE - Online sessions which will cover the theoretical aspects of Diabetes management for 4 days.

The live interactive sessions will include lectures, discussions and demonstrations which will be presented by efficient and eloquent preceptors in a methodical fashion, and will be transmitted live between 12.30 pm to 5.00 pm.

You will be asked questions during the online sessions and interactive sessions will occur.

We will have an online trial of the system a day before the training, in order to plan and practice before we have the session.

Kindly be available with the necessary internet connection to log in at that point of time.

Assignments as Homework:

You will receive a book and some assignments via the Indian postal service. An interim period will involve the completion of assignments and worksheets which will be evaluated and discussed during the second half of the program at a later date. Some practical assignments will also be given to ensure that you can practice on patients as well.

Practical sessions and evaluation at CMC, Vellore (in Person)

Thereafter the practical sessions will be conducted at the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore. This portion of sessions will include demonstrations, hands on experience, patient counselling and interdepartmental visits. The tentative dates for this part of the programme will fall probably within 3months from the date of the Practical Sessions. The Practical sessions will be in 6 full days.  (Based on the prevailing situation at that time)

This combined method of online and practical classes will essentially scale down the expenses on travel, accommodation, food and is also preferably the choice of action on a long term basis.

In fact it will enhance your learning process and improve your ability to remember, retain and improve your skills.
