Diabetes Foot Care & Footwear Training Programme

The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism will be organizing a Foot Care and Footwear Training Programme for Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapist from 31st October, 2023 to 3rd November, 2023, with practical and theoretical intonation followed by assessment. This Training will take place at the Christian Medical College in Vellore.

Overview

We have been conducting the Diabetes Foot Care and Footwear Training Programme for Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapist as a part of regular academics for the last two decades.   This four-day curriculum consists of both theory and practical sessions. The interactive sessions will include lectures, discussions, and demonstrations delivered by knowledgeable and articulate preceptors.

Diabetes Mellitus is increasingly being recognized as a public health problem in India. Today, India is the country with the highest percentage of diabetic patients worldwide. Alarming complications from uncontrolled diabetes includes peripheral neuropathy and diabetic foot ulcers. Long-term problems from diabetes can be greatly reduced with careful and multidisciplinary management. The loss of sensation in the feet, which usually results in the emergence of ulcers and eventually leads to amputations, is one of the most prevalent problems that sometimes goes undiagnosed.

Course Objectives:-

  • Assessment and management of peripheral Neuropathy
  • Evaluation and Management of diabetes related foot ulcers.
  • Emphasis on primary prevention of foot ulcer
  • Patient education and guidance
  • Foot care and evidence based offloading techniques.
  • Basic training in application of Total contact cast.
  • Charcot foot management
  • Setting up an integrated diabetes foot clinic with an emphasis on the close collaboration of the Diabetes Nurse Educator, physiotherapist and Doctor.

Accreditation

The course is recognized by The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University for 30 CME credit points.

Certification

After completing the course, participants will receive the final certificate from CMC Vellore.
