Gestational Diabetes Clinic (GDM)

Home / Gestational Diabetes Clinic (GDM)

The Gestational Diabetes Clinic is a once-weekly clinic dedicated to the care of women who develop diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes) as well as women with pre-existing Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes prior to pregnancy (pregestational diabetes). Diabetes during pregnancy presents unique clinical challenges and is associated with significant health risks for both the mother and the fetus during pregnancy and after delivery. Timely diagnosis and appropriate management are essential to minimize these complications and ensure optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Although blood glucose levels in women with gestational diabetes typically return to normal soon after delivery, these individuals remain at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life. Consequently, regular follow-up and periodic monitoring of blood glucose levels are strongly recommended to detect and manage future metabolic abnormalities at an early stage.
